Family & Pet-Friendly Accessible Accommodation.Adam Smark, our team member here at Accessible Accommodation, checked out one of our top five accessible places to stay in New South Wales.A recent amputee, Adam understands the challenges in adjusting to a life where accessibility is crucial for his mobility. When Adam uses his prosthetic, he has more flexibility on where to stay. However, we asked Adam to critique Hollyhall as a part-time wheelchair user. This is his story: The Setting:Hollyhall is a working farm and Equestrian Training Centre set in The Southern Highlands, between Sydney and Melbourne. My partner Tracy loves horses, so when I told her we were going to stay at Hollyhall, she jumped at the chance. As we entered the automatic gates and drove down the gravel road, the last remaining autumn leaves, a nip in the air and lush green grass greeted us. Jan and John, the owners ensured the wood fire was burning for our arrival into this cosy cottage.
Hey there, my name is Josh and I wanted to share my experience at the Melbourne F1 Grand Prix. As a big fan of cars and racing, I was excited to attend this event for the second year in a row. This time around, I was offered general admission tickets which I couldn’t turn down. Last year was my first time going and I purchased grandstand tickets. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Albert Park, where the race takes place, is largely flat and accessible, which made it much easier for me to get around. Since I got my new electric wheelchair earlier this year I thought I would give it a good test at the Grand Prix. Hollyhall Farm – An Accessible ParadiseDuring our recent stay at Hollyhall Farm in the Southern Highlands, we had an incredible experience that I cannot recommend enough. As a family with a daughter (Grace), who relies on a wheelchair due to a rare genetic movement disorder, finding suitable accommodation can be challenging. However, Jan and John, the hosts of Hollyhall Farm, went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction throughout our stay. Hollyhall Farm really was An Accessible Paradise. A Warm Welcome at An Accessible ParadiseFrom the moment we arrived, Jan and John greeted us warmly and made sure we had everything we needed. They even provided us with a commode to facilitate Grace's needs. It was evident that they truly understood the unique challenges faced by families living with disabilities. Each night, they would check in on us and ensure we had enough wood for the fire, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, they organized a special bonfire experience for our boys, showing their kindness and generosity. A Truly Accessible CottageThe accessibility of the cottage was remarkable. It was designed to be fully wheelchair accessible and even had a hoist available. This attention to detail and consideration for individuals with disabilities made our stay incredibly smooth and stress-free.The cottage itself was well-equipped with essential pantry items and even had a coffee machine for those much-needed morning pick-me-ups. The cleanliness and warmth of the cottage was exceptional, and the beds provided a comfortable and restful night's sleep. Meeting The Locals at Hollyhall FarmOne of the highlights of our stay was the opportunity for Grace to go horse riding. The horses at Hollyhall Farm were remarkable, displaying gentleness and understanding. With the help of her father and brother, Grace was able to enjoy horse riding several times during our stay. Jan, in particular, was determined to make equestrian experiences accessible to people with disabilities, and her dedication truly shone through.

Accessible Holiday to Scarborough Beach & Rottnest Island. My parents live in WA and so when it was time to decide where we would catch up next, we decided to escape the chill of Victoria and chase the sunshine of the West Coast. I hadn’t visited Scarborough before and so we decided to base ourselves at Ramada Vetroblu Scarborough Beach due to its central location. Staying At Ramada Vetroblu Scarborough BeachRamada Vetroblu Scarborough Beach Accessible AccommodationThe room itself was great with plenty of space, two bedrooms and an accessible bathroom but what impressed me so much was the fact that they had actually thought about accessibility when designing the kitchen. Not only was there a cut-out under the sink but the bench tops were lowered as were the overhead cupboards – it’s the first time in my life I’ve been able to access overhead cupboards! I don’t even have this luxury in my own home.

Their goal is “to provide an inclusive experience for all people with any disability to experience the rush of riding a wave.” And that they do!A small army of volunteers are there to guide and help you from start to finish to help you achieve your disabled surfing goal. People of all ages participate, and it’s a fun day.In todays post, I'll outline information for the Ocean Grove/ Barwon Heads venue. Rest assured, you will most likely find a similar venue nearby your next holiday destination around Australia, and I'll include links to other venues around Australia.I have also shared this amazing experience by one of our Facebook Group followers Alison Halloran and her sweet son Ewan. Here is what Alison told me about Ewan's adventure:"Ewan is 7, is a lover of adventure, fun and the beach. He is a wheel chair user, legally blind and has some hearing loss, but no holding him back!He spent many of his early years on the beach at Torquay as we lived close by. We now live 3 hours from the closest beach, access onto the beach has become difficult as he has grown so much! ( Mum can’t carry him anymore!) This was saddening for me as I grew up on the beach. By chance we met a lady from Ocean Grove Disabled Surfing Association who approached Ewan asking him if liked the beach ? A resounding ‘yes’ was heard, that was that, and we registered with Ocean Grove DSA, where we attended in March 2019.It was incredible.DSA Ocean Grove are an organised, professional and welcoming group. Engaged, enthusiastic volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, from old saltys to groms. Ewan was a little nervous, but by his second wave surrounded by supporting hands and heartfelt cheers, his smile was ear to ear. The cheers and clapping can be heard for very participant on every wave.Wow, our hearts were full. Ewan enjoyed a new sense of freedom and confidence. We could not achieve this without support of this wonderful group."Ali, Ewan’s Mum.Ocean Grove beach offers year-round accessibility, and your family can either drive or walk.
