The floor plan complies with bathroom and toilet size and allows ample access space in corridors. Door handles were specifically chosen, the parking area was raised while sliding doors are flush with the floor level. Bathroom fittings, including sensor tapware, that not only meet accessibility requirements but look luxurious too.

The purpose-built Villa Stella, completed in March 2023, offers sustainable luxury design by Sydney-based award-winning architect Alexander Symes of ASA, winner of two prestigious Habitus Awards.

A triumph in accessible design and built with passive house principles, a highlight of the 100sqm villa is a two-metre tailor-made circular skylight positioned directly above the bed, allowing guests to fall asleep star gazing and wake to the sunrise and drifting clouds (a remote-controlled electronic blind reveals or hides the skylight). Befitting its prominent celestial feature, Villa Stella’s name derives from the Latin name for stars.

Guests enter Villa Stella via a break within an earth berm – creating an “invisible” building where the roof appears to float above the rim from the south and east. The living area, which looks out over a tall eucalyptus clearing, offers guests the opportunity to sit in a window seat and watch the sunset or soak in a bath immersed in nature.

Impressively, Villa Stella is also accessible. The floor plan complies with bathroom and toilet size and to allow ample access space in corridors. Door
handles were specifically chosen, the parking area was raised while sliding doors are flushed with the floor level. Bathroom fittings, including censor tapware, meanwhile were sourced to ensure they not only met accessibility requirements but look luxurious too.

Villa Stella is designed and built according to passive house principles to be ultra- energy efficient and uses minimal energy to maintain optimal thermal comfort year-round. Cool in summer and warm in winter, Villa Stella’s air-conditioning is powered by onsite renewables. The villa contains high-performance insulation, windows and a heat recovery ventilation unit – making it a leader in the eco-tourism space.

Accessibility elements of Villa Stella:
- A safe, continuous step-free accessway from the front boundary of the site to the
entry doorway.
- Minimum clear accessway of 1200mm.
- Minimum car parking dimensions and an even, firm and slip-resistant surface.
- Landing space of 1500mm and access space of 1000mm
- Door handles installed at a height between 900mm-1100mm above the finished
floor level.
- Toilet size compliance with grab rail and sensor flush system
- Shower size compliance with vertical support grab rail and portable seat, clear of shower screens.
