Breakwall Port Macquarie

1/ The Iconic Port Macquarie Coastal Walk

Sections of the 9 kilometres Coastal Walk are very new and offer peaceful vantage points to enjoy the Hastings River views. It’s wheelchair accessible from the Westport Park to Town Beach along the beautiful Hastings River and iconic painted break wall. At Town Beach, water lovers can access the Sandcruiser Beach Wheelchair. It’s free to use and available during the patrolled season when lifeguards are on duty.

2/ Up close with koalas and kangaroos

The Koala Hospital made the news throughout the world with the recent bushfires. It’s completely free to visit the Koala Hospital, open seven days a week with tours at 3 pm. The grounds of the Koala Hospital are accessible with disabled parking spaces in the car park and a path to the entrance.  The areas near the enclosures are woodchip but there are several koalas you can see without leaving the path.

3/ Exotic & Aussie Animals

3/ Billabong Zoo is a multiple award-winning experience where you can get up-close and personal to Australian and exotic animals. You can pat, stroke, feed, hold, hear and see over 80 species of mammals, reptiles and birds. It’s set on 10 acres but it’s easy to get around and there’s ramps and lowered viewing glass on many enclosures.

4/ Hello Koalas

The award-winning Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail encompasses over 65 one metre high koala sculptures dotted throughout the region. Each sculpture is a unique hand-painted artwork and you can follow the Hello Koalas Trail to view the beautiful koala sculptures at interesting destinations. There’s also a Hello Koalas Festival from the 6 - 8 June 2020 over the long weekend.

5/ ArtWalk Port Macquarie

ArtWalk is an evening event during July when the streets of Port Macquarie come to life with art installations and pop up creative performances. The Port Macquarie CBD, its streets, intersections, cafes and cultural facilities become the stage for contemporary works from artists and creatives. Visitors are invited to experience the annual ArtWalk night held in the July school holidays and participate in other creative satellite activities. The Town Centre at Short Street Plaza Car Park has a brand new accessible toilet block. It includes two accessible wheelchair friendly toilets that are open 24/7. A third toilet is a  ‘Changing Places’ toilet and caters for multiple accessibility requirements, and includes an overhead gantry hoist, wheelchair friendly toilet and hand basin, and a height-adjustable adult change table.
